Push alerts

What each RevenueHog push notification says, which event kinds ever push, how alerts are filtered per person, and how to test delivery to your devices.

A push alert is one notification on your phone for one event. RevenueHog builds the alert once per event, then checks each recipient's own rules before sending it to their devices.

Which events push

Alerts follow the same event taxonomy as the live feed, but only some kinds ever become a push.

The informational feed kinds never push: a refund request, a declined or reversed refund, a queued plan change, a price increase, churn risk and a billing failure. They are things to read, not to be woken up for.

Family Sharing duplicates have their own switch (Family Sharing duplicates, off by default). Sandbox events push only if you turn on Sandbox alerts.

What a push looks like

On iOS an alert has three lines: the title says what happened, the subtitle says where, and the body gives the detail.

Example purchase alert
New purchase
Only Recipes (App Store)
Purchased Only Recipes Pro (Annual) for $19.99

On Android the subtitle is folded into the title, for example New purchase · Only Recipes (App Store).

A trial cancelled before any money was charged is retitled Free trial cancelled, and the body says how far into the trial the customer left.

Other pushes use fixed copy:

How an alert is filtered

For each device in your workspace, RevenueHog applies these checks in order. The first one that fails drops the push for that person only.

Subscription

Event alerts, milestones and the digest need an active RevenueHog Alerts subscription on the workspace. New-app, discovery and review pushes skip this check.

Quiet hours

If quiet hours are on and the current time in your chosen timezone falls in the window, nothing is sent. This includes milestones.

Event switch

The per-app switch for that event kind decides when the event belongs to a known app. Otherwise the workspace-wide default decides. TestFlight pushes check only the TestFlight switch.

Sandbox and Family Sharing

Sandbox events need Sandbox alerts. Family Sharing copies need Family Sharing duplicates.

Minimum amount

Purchases, renewals and conversions below your Only alert when threshold are dropped. Churn and refunds are never thresholded.

Time-sensitive delivery

When you set a minimum amount, purchases, renewals and conversions that clear it are delivered as time-sensitive, so they break through Focus and the scheduled notification summary. Nothing else is time-sensitive, milestones included. Apple's guidance is that time-sensitive must reflect something you asked to be interrupted for, and setting a threshold is that request.

Sound and stacking

Each push plays the sound you chose (default Cha-ching). On iOS, alerts stack by app, by event type or all together according to your Grouping setting. Milestones have their own stack when grouping by app. See Notification preferences.

On Android, custom sounds are not yet applied: every sound except Silent plays the device default.

Tapping a notification

Apps discoveredThe pending apps confirmation screen, or the Apps tab if they were connected automatically. Also has a Connect button on iOS.

Testing delivery

The DEVICES card on Settings > Notifications (web) lists each registered device with its name, platform, environment (sandbox or production) and when it was last seen. Each row shows Reachable or Server not configured.

Send test push sends 🐷 test push, your alerts are wired up. to every device you have registered in this workspace. It deliberately ignores your rules and the subscription, so you can check delivery before subscribing.

ResultMeaning
Sent to 1 of 1 deviceApple or Google accepted the push.
No devices accepted the pushEvery device rejected it. Open the app on your phone so it re-registers.
removed N stale tokensTokens for uninstalled apps were deleted.
Too many attempts, wait a moment. The test endpoint is rate limited. Wait and try again.
None registeredNo device yet. Install the iOS app and open it while signed in.

If the push is accepted but does not appear, make sure notifications are allowed for RevenueHog in iOS Settings. A test push is a visible alert.

Background pushes

Every recorded event also triggers a silent background push to every device in the workspace, at most one per device per minute. It refreshes the app's data and reloads widgets. It ignores rules and the subscription, shows nothing and needs no permission.
